echoshell – jane song

Limerick’s echoshell (namely Kieran Calvert and Al Sheahan) have been combining their original music and film to create innovative atmospheric landscapes with very beautiful results. This is a release called “jane song” which features in the opening credits of a new Irish/English movie called “Spiderhole” written and directed by Daniel Simpson which was screened at The Dingle Film Festival in September.

Bela Fleck and The Flecktones @ UCH Limerick Tuesday 3rd November 2009.
Multiple Grammy Award winning Bela Fleck is probably the best banjo player in the world. While still in high school he began experimenting with playing bebop jazz on his banjo, released his first solo album, Crossing the Tracks in 1980 and formed the genre-busting Flecktones, with members equally talented and adventurous as himself in 1989. Featured below is a live take of The Sinister Minister (PART ONE) Recorded on July 4th 1998 at the Spectrum de Montreal during the Jazz Club du Maurier series of the 19th edition of the Festival International de Jazz de Montreal. The Limerick show starts at 8pm and tickets are €27.50.

The Hypnotic Brass Ensemble @ Trinity Rooms Sunday 25th October 2009. The Chicago based 9-piece brass/jazz band hit Limerick this Sunday as part of their tour to promote their new album on the “Honest Jon’s” label. Featuring 8 brothers, the Hypnotic Brass Ensemble started out as a busking street band and have since recorded with Erykah Badu and Mos Def. This “must see” show starts at 7.30pm in Trinity Rooms Clubhouse. Giveamanakick are shutting down

Giveamanakick
Limerick’s Giveamanakick have announced their farewell tour in this video release. The duo Steven Ryan & Keith Lawlor have made a noise much bigger than the sum of their parts for the past 7 years releasing 3 albums, Is it ok to be loud, Jesus? (2003), We Are the Way Forward (2005) and Welcome to the Cusp (2008) playing the Oxygen and Electric Picnic festivals and supporting rock luminaries Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Undertones and Rocket From the Crypt to name but a few. But before they shut down we will get another chance to enjoy Steveamanakick singing through a gas mask on “Spring Break” and Giveamanakeith getting the crowd to block their ears to the the beat when the ferocious GAMAK live show takes a final tour this winter. New projects are eagerly anticipated from these guys in 2010.
